Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 400 CE. A beautiful textile poncho comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers dyed in hues of crimson, cobalt, emerald-green, beige, and black. The poncho is composed of several sewn panels decorated with intricate circular motifs which form crosses and small diamonds, and a lengthy slit is situated in the center of the body for the wearer to pull over their head.
