Description

A low pottery cup on ring base with deep bowl type body and two graceful, squared handles extending at opposing sides. Exterior with red-figure painted reclining figure, probably Dionysus holding a bowl. The bearded figure wears a draped garment on his lower body, chest is bare. Reverse with profile portrait head of a lady wearing a saccos and earrings. Palmettes flank the scenes and rosettes under the handles. One handle reattached, else intact. Provenance: Collection of Robert Sonin, NYC.
