Very Important Pre-Columbian Flying Panel Metate Royal Throne – Costa Rica Ca. 300-700 CE
Carved from large volcanic stone. The rectangular platform with serrated edges supported by an elaborate base with a reclining male supporting standing figure with long arms and a curled insect proboscis at the nose at center, a vertical crocodile support at one end, a toucan with a long curled beak pointing downward at the other end and two similar toucans symmetrically disposed on each side. In very good condition, areas of restoration.
